Over the past decade, the manufacturing level of powder equipment has made great progress, such as better materials, smarter control systems and higher machining accuracy. Logically, the more advanced the equipment, the fewer problems there should be in the workshop. Many frontline managers say problems haven’t decreased. But there are even more in some areas, so what are the reasons?

Reason 1: Advanced Equipment Demands Higher Operating Skills
Ten years ago, equipment was simple in structure and highly fault-tolerant. Operators could handle it with experience alone. Today's equipment has PLCs, sensorsand variable frequency drives. Wrong parameter settings trigger alarms, dirty sensors cause false alarms. If operators don’t understand the principles, they are actually more likely to cause problems. Equipment has advanced, raising the requirements for operators, but training has not kept up.
Reason 2: Material Changes Are Becoming More Frequent
So many years ago, a workshop might process one or two materials year-round. Now, many varieties in small batches have become the norm, changing three or four materials a week is common. Every material differs in flowability, moisture absorption and abrasiveness, so equipment parameters need frequent adjustment. If one set of parameters is still used for everything, problems will naturally occur often.
Reason 3: Production Pressure Squeezes Maintenance Time
Order deadlines are getting tighterand equipment downtime for maintenance is constantly being compressed. When the filter should be replaced, people think"Let's push it two more days." When the seal should be replaced, they think "Let's wait until this batch is delivered." Maintenance debt piles upand eventually breaks out in the form of a much bigger failure.
Reason 4: Spare Parts Management Cannot Keep Up with Equipment Updates
Equipment updates quickly, but spare parts management is still stuck in the old mode. New-model filters, sensors and seals are not interchangeable with old models. The warehouse is stocked with old spare parts that cannot be used, while the new spare parts actually needed are out of stock.
Reason 5: Data Is Available but Nobody Uses It
Today's equipment can output operating data, but many workshops just store it without anyone analyzing it. Current curves, pressure difference trends, and output fluctuations contain a lot of information, but there is a lack of people who can read and use the data.
Equipment progress is a good thing, but advanced equipment needs advanced management. Make operator training solid, parameter management detailed, maintenance planning strict and data analysis active. Only these can advanced equipment truly deliver advanced capacity. Equipment is a tooland using tools well depends on people.
