A sterile hammer mill is essentially a hammer mill. But on top of its basic crushing function, it is specially designed to meet the strict hygiene requirements of industries like pharmaceuticals and food, making it suitable for sterile, dust-free production environments.

How Does It Work?
Material first enters the crushing chamber through an even-feeding valve at a steady speed. Inside the chamber, high-speed rotating blades or hammers create strong centrifugal force, throwing the material outward toward the chamber wall. During this process, material particles collide and rub against each other, the rotating parts, and the chamber walls, causing intense hammering, shearing and impact that quickly crushes the material. When the particles become small enough, they pass through a screen at the bottom and enter a collection device, completing the entire crushing process. The whole operation is efficient and fully enclosed, ensuring production continuity and cleanliness.
Why Is It "Sterile"?
Unlike regular hammer mills, the sterile hammer mill meets sterile requirements through several design features: the head uses clamp connections, so it can be easily removed for off-line sterilization, and it can also withstand steam for on-line cleaning and sterilization; all parts that contact material are made of 316L stainless steel, with polished inner walls and no dead corners for thorough cleaning;the modular design allows the rotor and screen to be changed quickly, making maintenance easy; the high-open-area screen has more effective area than traditional punched plates, allowing faster discharge and reducing the risk of material overheating.
Applications
The sterile hammer mill can process many types of materials, including hard, crystalline, and fibrous materials, as well as dry, wet, and heat-sensitive materials. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is often used for sterile milling of raw materials like amoxicillin, cephalosporin antibiotics, and vitamin C. The equipment covers a wide capacity range, suitable for everything from small-scale lab R&D to large-scale production.
